subject: how to customise Opera's search functionality posted: Mon, 07 Feb 2005 11:51:31 -0000
Opera has a nice function which integrates web search into a tiny box
near the addressbar, removing the need to directly visit the search
engines' homepage ... search engines can also be searched by typing g
searchterm in the main addressbox - that will search Google.
Now, how to get it to work with my favourite engine, Mamma?
1. close Opera
2. edit the file: C:\PROGRAM FILES\OPERA\PROFILE\SEARCH.INI
Pick an existing engine to overwrite - I suspect 31 is all it
supports, and they are all filled already. I picked number 6 since I
will never use Google Groups.
3. replace selected engine details as follows:
[Search Engine 6]
Name=Mamma
URL=http://www.mamma.com/Mamma?qtype=&query=%s
Query=
Key=m
Is post=0
Has endseparator=0
Encoding=utf-8
Search Type=1
Verbtext=17063
Position=-1
Nameid=0
4. close SEARCH.INI, saving changes
5. open Opera
You can now search mamma.com by selecting it from Opera's search
engine dropdown, and even search it by typing m searchterm in the
main addressbar!
Oh, happy days.. :)
