subject: wanted: MUD hosting.. :)

hi folkz...

That's right, I've decided the latest tool in the effort to attain 'sticky' website visitors is our old friend, the
MUD (trans: multi-user dungeon). Some may recall, from BBS days, the games 'Trade Wars' or Tradewars
2000 or Yankee Trader. It turns out, Tradewars at least is alive as well, at version 11.2 - although there's
not a version for the web yet. You can play it over the net - but you need to use Telnet...

It also seems that most internet-based MUDs run as daemons on the server. This is a problem for most
websites - they are vitually hosted, and getting the sysadmin to do anything is almost impossible.

So, what I'm wondering, is if someone reading this could volunteer their server. :)

Also, it seems to me that there is $$$ in developing a trading MUD than runs as a PERL script with no
daemons to install, can be played in a browser, and that can be rebranded for use on multiple sites.

I would be willing to pay $$$ to license it, should someone reading this decide to write one.. since I will be
able to charge my customers to install it on their sites.

I would be interested in co-developing a test site - I have beta players if you have beta code, no money
changes hands.

Some more advanced PBW (play by web) games have java-based consoles, which sounds flash, but I
remember from playing tradewars, you don't need no steenkin' console to enjoy the game.

Any takers?

Stuart
